Communion

Several times a year the church holds a Communion Service. At Craigsbank this is usually the first Sunday in February, June and October - at East Craigs it is one week later. We also have Communion at Easter - both on Easter Sunday and on the Thursday before Easter (Maundy Thursday which is the night of the Last Supper). Communion is also held on Christmas Day. These services are slightly different from our normal services. The focus of the service is on the sharing of the bread and wine in commemoration of the Last Supper in which Christ shared bread and wine with his disciples the night before he was crucified.
This is called Holy Communion or the Eucharist and is a custom common to churches throughout the world not just the Church of Scotland. It has also been common to churches throughout the ages. In the Bible we are told that: "Every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you commemorate

Communion at Craigsbank and East Craigs
Communion at Craigsbank is a simple ceremony and you are welcome to participate in it. Again the Order of Service will guide you through the proceedings. There is no Children's Talk but the rest of the service for the first part is the same.
The sharing of bread and wine takes place towards the end. The wine is distributed by a few of the church members and it is in individual small glasses. Similarly the bread is broken up into small pieces and is passed around. Lastly the Minister and the members who have been distributing share the bread and wine. After (or before) this members of the congregation greet each other and say Peace be with you to each other.
